Sites Sustainable in a Generation

In order to grow our business sustainably, we must operate our 22 factories as efficiently as possible. This helps us keep energy costs down, while also leaving a lighter footprint on the communities in which we operate. We’re proud to be using less energy and water, and generating less waste. Over time, we aim to increase our use of renewable energy and completely eliminate fossil fuel use.

Sustainable in a Generation

Together with our counterparts across Mars, we are doing our part to shrink the environmental footprint of our factories. Our Sustainable in a Generation (SiG) initiative, launched in 2007, commits us to eliminating fossil fuel use and GHG emissions from our operations by 2040. We are working on similar long-term commitments for water and waste.

We are committed to the following by 2015 and will report our progress at year end:

  • Reducing direct fossil-fuel energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2015 from a 2007 baseline
  • Reducing water use by 25 percent by 2015 from a 2007 baseline
  • Achieving zero waste to landfill by 2015
  • LEED Gold certification for all substantial new Wrigley buildings
